“Dustbowl Chic.” was inspired by research of old photography of the Dustbowl and paintings by Tamara de Lempicka. Both were created in close time frames, yet one was focusing on overworked tired families, and the other wealthy rich white women. I find the harshness of how different their subjects are to be very intriguing. It lead me to create a collection fusing them together in a way that gives the feeling of Dustbowl clothing that looks tired and worn, but has a sense of unfaltering confidence like the subjects in a de Lempicka painting.
